Stem Cell Therapy Q & A

Stem Cell Therapy

Stem cells are the wellspring from which all other cells of the body develop. What is unique about stem cells is the “differentiation.” This means that they can become whatever type of cell the body needs.  Cells have no specific function other than to become the cells of muscles, bones, cartilage, brain, nervous system, blood and more.

All stem cells have 2 minimum qualities. The first being that they are renewable which means they undergo mitosis and have the potential to double. The second quality is they have potency, which is defined as the ability to differentiate into any cell in the body.

The Process

We all have stem cells that live inside us; they act as the repairmen of the body. As we age or have big injuries, we may not be able to get enough of these cells to that specific area to fully repair what is damaged.

All of our therapy stem cells are from exclusively accredited scientific company/ tissue bank. Once the stem cells are injected, they rush to the area or areas of the body in need of repair or re-growth. This type of treatment has been shown to give better results then surgery.

Common Uses for Stem Cell Therapy

Below are some listed treatments already in practice today, but are not limited to:

  • Arthritis
  • Autoimmune Diseases
  • Degenerative Disc Diseases
  • COPD
  • Congestive Heart Failure
  • SI Joint
  • Type II diabetes

Our office primarily focuses on the knees and hips for stem cell therapy.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma injection treatments also known as PRP contain healing growth components from your own blood that increase your body’s natural ability to repair itself. PRP typically contains 3-8 times the concentration of normal platelet levels. The primary purpose of plasma is to transport those nutrients, hormones and proteins to the parts of the body that need it. It also contains many different growth factors that can stimulate healing of soft tissue such as ligaments, muscles and tendons.

The Process

PRP starts by drawing blood from the patient and using a special blood collection tube that contains anticoagulant and a polyester gel.

When being processed in the centrifuge, the red blood cells are trapped beneath the gel separation layer and the concentrated platelets are captured above it.

Those platelets are then extracted into a syringe and injected into the damaged/ injured area or spots for anti- aging treatment.

Common Uses for PRP

The PRP treatment has been shown safe and effective in treating the following:

  • Osteoarthritis of the Knee, Shoulder, Hip & spine
  • Rotator cuff strains & tears
  • ACL
  • Pelvic pain & Instability
  • Back & neck injuries/ pain
  • Tennis elbow
  • Tendonitis & ligament sprains
  • Chronic Knee Pain
  • Muscle Pains

Our office primarily focuses on the knee, hips & shoulders.

How to know if PRP is right for you

Below are signs that would make you a candidate for PRP:

  1. Pain lasting at least 3 months or longer.
  2. Sprains, strains, tears of muscle/ligament/tendon.
  3. Symptoms and physical examination results consistent with diagnosis.
  4. Persistent pain despite standard non-operative treatment
  5. Pathological changes seen on diagnostic imaging such as: X-Ray, MRI, CT, and ultrasound.
  6. Patient wishes to delay or avoid surgical treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are PRP and Stem cell therapy FDA approved?

  • The answer is yes to both; the Food & Drug Administration has approved PRP therapy, and is also conducting further research into advancing this treatment.
  • The stem cells we administer are screened in compliance with FDA and cGMP regulatory standards as well as certified through the American Blood Bank and American Tissue bank.

Do you have payment options for my treatment plan?

  • Yes, we have several financing options available based on credit and there also is finance available.

How long is the process and are they any adverse reactions?

  • Both treatments take under 1 hour. With stem cell therapy, you should start to feel maximal results within 10-12 weeks and then continue to feel that improvement for 6 months or longer.
  • Some patients have had slight swelling or bruising after the injection of PRP. This is likely due to the fact that blood and healing properties of the blood are rushing to the area that has been injected to do its work. That swelling and bruising is only temporary.
